We all know that emergencies do happen. Some natural disasters could have terrible outcomes and there are no ways for people to stop them. However people try to do everything to save lives and to minimize the losses. Most cities and towns do have special emergency services and emergency plans. Government also encourages people to have their own emergency plans for each office and each household. Emergency sirens are located in the cities to announce major evacuation. Food, water and medications are stockpiled for emergency purposes. Special systems are developed to ensure that all vital services will be working even during severe power outage.

People who live by the sea usually suffer from hurricanes. The Atlantic coast suffers from hurricanes from June to November. And people who live by the Pacific Ocean have to stay alert even longer – from May to November.

There are special services that watch hurricanes via special radars. Once any of them get noticed, the public is immediately informed. It does not mean that everyone needs to panic right after hearing such an announcement. Weather conditions could change during the coming few hours. However if nothing changes, you need to become prepared.

Some hurricanes move faster than one hundred miles per hour. They are able to pick up cars and other large objects and throw them onto building causing severe damage. That is why all the windows and the doors in your house should be protected with hurricane shutters and additional plywood.

Most people do not think of emergency preparedness and begin to buy all necessary items only when they get informed that a disaster is already at their door. People usually run to the stores and buy food, water, flashlights, candles, batteries, radios and fuel. Most stores might not have enough of these items for all people. That is why we recommended you to buy all emergency items ahead of time.

Water is especially important as we are not able to survive without it. It is advisable to use every empty container in your house and fill it with pure water. Most survivalists recommended having at least one gallon of water per one person for each day.

A first aid kit or medical kit is also highly important. You need to have bandages and antibiotics to be able to take care of possible injuries and infections. In some cases you will not be able to get to a hospital for several days and you need to be able to survive this period of time without professional medical assistance.

Hurricanes of 4th and 5th category are very dangerous and people are advised to evacuate. You need to be prepared to leave your house as soon as possible after such an announcement.
